What You'll Be Doing - The Maintenance Group Leader role is a key leadership position at the Newport site. The position is responsible for the safety, productivity, and development of their direct reports while effective execution of routine and outage maintenance which includes mechanical, instrument, and electrical maintenance is assured to achieve production throughput targets and be in line with the expectations of the Engineering & Maintenance Manager.
Support and adhere to the principles of the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care(r) by protecting the environment, health, safety and security of our employees, contractors, carriers, distributors, visitors, customers and neighbors. Comply with the requirements of the ISO9001:2015 Quality Management System. Support behavior-based safety (ERP) through safety contacts and supporting SIREN observers on your team to complete behavior-based observations in support of an improved safety culture.
Develop and implement the maintenance & infrastructure strategy for the site, in partnership with engineering & maintenance leadership.
Perform personnel management responsibilities -- monitoring the training plans of employees, assessing employee competency, supporting development plans of the employees and performance management of direct reports.
Organize, plan, supervise and manage all activities associated with all aspects of maintenance & infrastructure activities in a timely and cost-effective manner as defined by the business needs to ensure business targets are achieved.
Provide technical expertise to implement engineering concepts for the site and represent the maintenance & engineering department as a technical authority to ensure business targets are achieved.
Provide support to manufacturing and reliability teams in areas of reliability related activities. Devise and develop cost effective/cost saving opportunities which will support the business needs.
Ensure the application of all safety rules, assuring Maintenance & Power House personnel are aware of and employing safe working practices and promoting safety programs and behavior.
Develop and implement the maintenance & infrastructure strategy for the site, in partnership with technical engineering & maintenance leadership.
Lead the development of maintenance goals, ensure implementation, monitor effectiveness, and take necessary actions to meet overall business objectives.
Set goals for staff, consistent with business and department needs, and hold them accountable for delivering results. Provide coaching and direction to ensure that they successfully meet individual objectives. Track Team Performance for success (KPIs / Metrics).
Manage talent development and succession planning for staff, including team development and building / maintaining an engaged workforce.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
Shine With Colors & Effects! Do You Have What It Takes?
BS/MS in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering.
Minimum 8 years of experience in the chemical industry and strong exposure to maintenance principles, practices, measured against maintenance KPI's.
Capabilities to supervise and develop direct reports.
Strong technical and functional skills, with knowledge and understanding of sound engineering practices and principles relating to mechanical equipment.
Direct experience in communicating with technical professional and managing tradespersons & contractors.
Computer skills -- ability to learn/work with SAP, MS Office.
Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills are required.
Ability to learn/apply trouble shooting skills.
Be available at times to provide off-hours and weekend plant coverage.
Ability to walk, sit, or stand for a minimum of 8 hours. Will be required to move throughout production areas on potentially uneven surfaces, climb ladders and/or stairs and be exposed to outside weather conditions for extended periods.
Well-developed and practical knowledge of occupational and process safety requirements (LOTO, Confined Space, Hot Work, PPE, etc.
Certifications in Maintenance & Reliability (CMRP)
Certifications in vibration analysis and oil analysis.
Experience with pump system design and modeling
Experience with non-destructive testing.
Knowledge of API, ASME, and ISO industry standards for fixed and rotating equipment.
Knowledge of equipment fabrication, inspection, and repair codes and standards applicable to the chemical industry preferred.
