The Precision Machinist Apprenticewill be based in Tempe, AZ at Flex Tech Mold, a leader in the mold making industry for over 40 years. The candidate will be enrolled in a formal four year apprenticeship sponsored by the NTMA. At the end of the Machinist CNC/Mold maker apprenticeship, the candidate will have earned their Journeyman's card as a precision machinist. This is an exciting and rewarding position for someone looking to start a career in the plastic injection mold making industry. We are looking for candidates that have a basic knowledge of shop safety practice, machining and simple inspection methods such as reading a micrometer and calipers. Must be flexible and willing to learn. Will be utilized in many roles including and not limited to CNC lathes, CNC mills, grinding wire EDM, sinker EDM, design.

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll learn as an apprentice…
Precision CNC machining in horizontal and vertical mills with the ability to set up and prove out programs and make necessary G and M code edits.
CNC lathes with the ability to set up and prove out programs and make necessary G and M code edits, and write programs by manually inputting G and M codes.
Manual and CNC surface grinding to include form grinding and other various grinding disciplines.
Electrode manufacturing to include milling and turning in CNC centers.
Plastic injection mold assembly and knowledge of how to manufacture a mold.
Here is some of what you’ll need (required)…
Performs a variety of complex, specialized tasks related to the construction, repair, maintenance, and calibration of machine shop tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and instruments.
Operates various conventional machine shop equipment such as lathes, mills, grinders, vertical and horizontal saws to produce and detail a variety of small parts, ranging from simple to complex, which are within prescribed tolerances.
Checks machined parts for conformance to prescribed tolerances
May be required to operate numerical control machines.
Specialized Job Responsibilities may be required for certain positions. These could include one or more of the following duties.
Designs and constructs machine shop tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
Interprets all types of tooling and fixture requests, converting them to sketches, and fabricating them using various machines, as required.
Gives advice and assistance to tool designers in the formation of new tooling.
