OVERVIEW: The Lawrence Hall of Science Shop is responsible for the design, construction, testing and ongoing operation of one-of-a-kind educational interactive exhibits, devices and materials. Incumbent designs, fabricates, installs, repairs and maintains the cleanliness and functionality of interactive science education experiences for the museum exhibit galleries, classrooms and learning labs providing high level mechanical, carpentry, electronics, plastics and metal work on projects with a variety of tools, processes, and materials.
•Design, fabricate, install, repair and maintain the cleanliness and functionality of interactive science education experiences for the museum exhibit galleries, classrooms and learning labs. •Perform mechanical, carpentry, electronics, plastics and metal work with a variety of standard and specialized tools, processes, and materials requiring the knowledge and skill of a top-level fabricator. •Work from unchecked drawings, sketches or oral instructions with responsibility for establishing or checking accuracy of all dimensions and clearances supplied, solving fabrication problems with supervisors and engineers. •Work closely with other team members to help generate solutions to interactive exhibit and educational materials challenges. •General departmental tasks including exhibit turn-on/shut down, forklift and scissor lift operation, maintenance of storage areas, maintenance of shop area including tools and machinery, maintenance and proper use of safety equipment. •Researching and ordering of supplies as directed.•Effective written and verbal communication skills. •Ability to work in a collaborative manner, to assist in identifying any challenges or barriers. •Thorough and effective skills to multi-task and prioritize daily activities effectively. •Top level design and fabrication skills at or above journeyman level in wood, metal, plastics and operation of associated specialized equipment including welding unit, power and hand tools. •Minimum six years prior experience working in a professional shop at or above journeyman skill level with wood, metal, plastics and operation of associated specialized equipment including welding unit, power and hand tools. •Bachelors degree in related area or equivalent experience •Standard work week includes one weekend day, •Holiday work may be required.
